Academic and Mental Health Resources

Academic Problems

If your academic performance is not meeting your expectations for any reason, it is crucial to address this at the earliest opportunity. We recommend initiating a conversation with your instructor or teaching assistant regarding any courses where you are facing challenges. Prompt communication can facilitate more effective support and guidance. For academic-related issues, please consider consulting with an academic advisor who can offer tailored strategies and resources to enhance your study practices and overall academic success.

Below are some specific resources that may be helpful:

  • Study Lab provides tools and resources for you to discover the most efficient and effective ways to study.

Feeling Stressed Out, Anxious, Depressed, Other?

By nature, college is a time for transition and growth; it can also be a time for stress and adjustment. The University Counseling Center (UCC) is the primary mental health service for students. The UCC offers a variety of mental health services to students utilizing a short-term, time-limited approach, including assessment, counseling and psychotherapy services (individual, group, and couples), and psychiatric services.  If you cannot get enough attention at the UCC, be sure to ask them about referrals to private therapists!

In addition, the UCC provides crisis intervention, consultation, referral, and outreach services to students, as well as faculty and staff of the University of Pittsburgh. Specialized counseling, consultation, and outreach services are offered through the UCC’s Sexual Assault Services and Substance Abuse Services programs. UCC services are provided by a multidisciplinary staff of mental health professionals that includes psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and advanced graduate trainees in various mental health disciplines. The UCC, as part of the University of Pittsburgh community, is committed promoting the health, as well as the personal, academic, and career development of all University students.
