General Transfer Issues
Please note that courses with titles closely resembling those offered at Pitt are generally more likely to be approved for transfer. Click here to access a database that Pitt uses to determine equivalent transfers for a large number of institutions.
If a course you completed at another institution has not transferred as an equivalent to a Pitt class but it was quite similar, it may still be possible to receive credit. For courses related to Geology and Environmental Science, you should send an advisor a course description and syllabus. For courses from other departments, please send Student Records the course description and syllabus. They will coordinate with the relevant department to determine credit eligibility.
Additionally, while department advisors have no authority over General Education Requirement transfers, they may approve transfer courses as major electives. For instance, a course taken in ore geology, not offered at Pitt, might still be recognized as an elective, despite being categorized under generic geology credits. We encourage you to discuss these possibilities with your advisor.
Transferring In Summer Courses from Other Universities
To take summer courses at another university that is NOT your geology summer field camp, please read all of the instructions on the Summer Approval Process.
Transferring In a Geology Summer Field Camp
There are only two things you need to do to transfer in your geology summer field camp credits:
- Before you sign up for your camp, get Dr. Jones's approval by sending him a link to the field camp course description. He will then send this approval to Student Records so that your field camp will count as GEOL 1960 Geology Field Camp.
After the field course is completed, get the transcript sent directly to Pitt's Student Records from the university that ran the field camp. The host university can email an official electronic transcript to studentrecords@as.pitt.edu, or they can mail an official transcript directly to:
Student Records
140 Thackeray Hall
University of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA 15260
Student Records will not accept unofficial transcripts, and your grade must be a C or better for the credits to transfer.
