MAY 2026 - GES Research Spotlight: Pitt Researchers Identify Possible Precursor to Volcanic Eruptions

GES researchers Dr. Ian T.W. Flynn, Dr. Mike Ramsey, and Dr. Evan Collins used satellite data and machine learning to identify a thermal buildup occurring one month before the 2022 eruption of Mauna Loa volcano, a potentially critical early warning signal.
